Céad míle fáilte! (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!)
The Sacramento Grove of the Oak, Inc. is an eclectic group of Druids,
Wiccans, and other Pagans who gather twice a month and on the eight annual
Celtic seasonal festivals, to share community, perform ritual, create magic,
and support each other in our chosen earth-honoring pagan paths.
Though we study together, practice together, learn from each other, teach, mentor, and encourage each other; we are committed to absolute respect for the individual's autonomy over her/his personal spiritual journey.
Many of us were formerly solitary practitioners of Wicca, Druidry, Asatru, etc. before we came to the Grove, consequently, we do our best to avoid dogma. We have a great love of learning, and a desire to see the Old Ways once again expressed through the arts and in academia.
We participate in many of Sacramento's public Pagan events because we
believe that if we Pagans do not define ourselves to the rest of our culture,
those who fear and hate us will be more than willing to do so.
We embrace a deep expectation that this new millennium will see the reemergence
of respect for the Great Mother Goddess and Her Consort and Co-creator
our loving Father God in their many manifestations. Because we believe
that all creation is sacred, we do not hold any gender, sexuality,
gender identity, physical or mental able-ness, race, age or any other
material human manifestation of the God and Goddess above any other.
In fact, we work hard to celebrate our distinctions and our varied
talents. We honor all other manifestations of the Divine in the natural
world and their spirits as well. We see as our spiritual responsibility
the search for harmony with each other, the natural world, and the
spiritual realms within and outside ourselves.
The Grove was founded in 1998 by Michael Robert Gorman, MA, a Druid, poet, teacher, published author, public speaker, and activist who has his formal training through the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids in Lewes, Sussex, England.
The Grove Druid College currently offers training in Druidry and Wicca, and hopes to expand classes to other nature centered paths as teachers become available. We participate in the annual Pagan Harvest Festival in the greater Sacramento area as well as the Ostara Celebration at Griffith Quarry, and we are the sponsor of the annual Celtic Midsummer Faerie Festival, the annual Winter Solstice Procession, Wassailing, and Celebration in Midtown Sacramento, the annual Imbolc Eisteddfod Gathering of the Bards, and the annual Beltaine On The River Festival at Goethe Park along the beautiful American River. We co-sponsor the annual Lughnasa Games, Celebration, and Ritual also at Goethe Park. The Sacramento Grove of the Oak, Inc. is an official tax exempt non-profit organization, and we are growing in many exciting ways.
As more talented folk and willing spirits join us, our vision and our work expands. Like the early Celts, we believe that everyone's gift ought to be honored as sacred, so there's lots of room for more cool things in our future. Together the hard work of making our way in the world becomes an adventure, an opportunity for spiritual growth, and a great deal of fun.
